Jubilee House
The heart of our work
Our responsibilities go much further than the provision of care and comfortable premises. Every resident is unique and will receive respect, dignity and compassion.
We are one of the few charities still performing the functions for which we were established over 400 years ago. One of those functions is to assist the elderly who qualify for residential status.
In the 1970s the Seckford Foundation decided to provide a care unit and Jubilee House was the result. It provides purpose built residential care and today it accommodates 19 residents. All rooms have en-suite facilities, television and telephone points. Four rooms have showers. The home has two bathrooms and a shower room which all meet the needs of our elderly community within the beautiful grounds of the Seckford Almshouses.
We are registered to admit frail older people with a need. "Need" may encompass difficulties associated with old age, infirmity, disability, social isolation or financial need. We are unable to help people with a mental health disorder, a history of drug or alcohol abuse as our registration does not cover this.
Our philosophy of care is to provide the highest quality standards of care for all our residents, by using an holistic, and therapeutic approach, in a relaxed, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. We ensure that each resident is treated with respect, dignity and compassion by a well-trained, and highly motivated, professionally led team, aware of its ethical, moral and legal duties.
Our responsibilities for care go further than the provision of suitable premises and the simple responsibility to our residents. Resident centred care is at the heart of our work. We recognise and respect that each resident is unique.
Jubilee House is intimate and friendly, offering two large lounges, a dining room, hairdressers, large garden and summer house. We are very proud of our homely atmosphere and home cooking and we cater for all dietary needs and tastes. Friends and family are always welcome to join us for a meal.
An individual care plan is made for each resident and regularly reviewed with the resident and their family. Residents are actively encouraged to exercise choice and to enjoy life to their full potential; physically, emotionally and spiritually. Best practice is constantly reviewed to allow improvement to the superior quality care we strive to provide.
We actively encourage and believe that all residents should be as independent and mobile as possible and we therefore have a varied and active programme of activities and events including:
baking, gardening, poetry, art, crafts, flower arranging, quizzes, musical afternoons or any activity of your choice which we can provide. Day outings are also hugely enjoyed on board our own wheelchair-friendly minibus. They can include visits to places of historic interest, river trips, mystery tours or simply fish and chips by the seaside.
You can become a resident of Jubilee House either on a self-funded contribution basis or by arrangement with Social Services' support.
