GENEROUS GIFT FROM TEENAGERS BENEFITS CHARITY

5 January 2009

Three warm hearted youngsters decided to put the needs of a local charity before their own gain when they celebrated their birthdays at a joint party.

Twins Oliver and William Bennett decided to share their 13th birthday party with a friend George Beresford and the plan was to hold a disco for all their friends at Woodbridge Rugby Club.

The three boys, all pupils at Woodbridge School, decided to ask all their guests coming to the party to make a donation to the Deben Family Centre in Woodbridge instead of bringing gifts for them.

Jane Bennett, mother of the twins said:  “All three boys had agreed they wanted to do something for a charity and they thought it would be good to support a local one at their party.  Through Woodbridge School they knew about its links with the Deben Family Centre and decided it should benefit.  We were all delighted when we discovered the boys had raised £541 at the end of the evening.”

Graham Watson director of the Seckford Foundation who received the cheque on behalf of the Deben Family Centre said:  “This is a really generous donation from the three boys and it will be a welcome bonus for the charity as it means we will be able to give Christmas parcels to the families using the centre.”

The Deben Family Centre aims to encourage families in the local community in the nurturing, protection and education of young children.
